This Friday, communities all over the US will be coming together for candle light vigils in protest of the human detention camps and the inhumane conditions people are facing in those camps.
There are currently rallies being planned in Bismarck, Minot, Fargo and Grand Forks.
While we are not organizing these rallies, they are consistent with AFL-CIO values and policy and fully encourage union leaders, members and their families to attend and show labor solidarity.

Lights for Liberty Rallies

Join a nation-wide vigil to mourn refugees and immigrants who have died in ICE detention, to protest the dehumanizing conditions of these camps, and to call for an end human detention camps in America. This gathering on the lawn of the Fargo Civic Center will include peaceful protest, learning from speakers who have experienced life in Central America or have seen the conditions at our southern border, and music to inspire action including an original song written for the event.

On Friday July 12th, 2019, Lights for Liberty: A Vigil to End Human Detention Camps, will bring thousands of people to detention camps across country, into the streets, and into our own front yards to protest the inhumane conditions faced by refugees. This event is open to people of all faiths or no particular faith who believe that the rights of human beings are being violated in our country at this time.

Camps and detention centers are located in every state. It's easy to believe that atrocities of the past couldn't happen here, but they are happening and the time to act is now.

We must not be complicit in the effort to scapegoat, detain, and flush out whole groups of people who have come to the United States seeking better lives for themselves and their families. We must not silently stand by while innocent people, many of them children, are separated from their families, stripped of rights and dignity, and denied access to basic needs like sleep, sanitation, and safety. We cannot turn away from this crisis as it unfolds in our own country.

Please remember the words inscribed at the feet of our Lady Liberty: Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.
